Responsibilites
The internment of Japanese Americans occurred because “the system of checks and balances created by the U.S. Constitution failed to protect Japanese-Americans’ fundamental rights.” According to Joshua Gannis, “the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the federal government had to act in agreement to strip away the basic constitutional rights of a group of US citizens.” Thus, the federal government did not live up to its responsibility of protecting all citizens’ rights nor did it uphold the principles of the constitution.
